MPT Target Population Identification Mapping Tool

MPT Target Population Identification Mapping Tool

January 2019

This interactive map illustrates the overlap in HIV prevalence in women and the total addressable market for contraception (women currently using a modern method as well as those who plan to use contraception in the future) to illustrate the hot spots where an MPT that combines HIV prevention and contraception might have the greatest impact. This map focuses on Sub-Saharan African women aged 15 to 49, and was updated in May 2019 to include the contraceptive method mix.

November 2019

An overview of field-wide priorities and gaps the IMPT identified in consultation with multidisciplinary stakeholders were presented at the NICHD Contraceptive Development Meeting. These technical consultations led to the prioritization of identifying strategic actions for combining hormonal contraceptives and antiretrovirals. While this activity focuses on female-initiated approaches, it is also expected to inform male-initiated approaches.
